How Our Business Valuation Process Works

At Swift and Wise, we follow a proven, professional process to deliver accurate and defensible business valuations. While the steps may sound technical, our goal is to make the experience clear, confidential, and as simple as possible for you. We never use AI-generated estimates. Every valuation is conducted by a credentialed expert using trusted data sources, custom-built algorithms, and professional standards.

Step 1: Initial Consultation & Scope Definition

We begin by understanding your needs and defining the scope of the engagement. This includes:

  • What percentage or portion of the business is being valued

  • The valuation date (which sets the basis for data and assumptions)

  • The purpose (e.g., buyout, tax, litigation, exit planning)

  • The premise of value – whether as a going concern or liquidation

Getting this right up front ensures your valuation meets its intended goal — whether you’re working with a buyer, the IRS, a court, or a partner.

Step 2: Engagement Letter

After the initial discussion, we send you a formal engagement letter via DocuSign. This outlines:

  • Purpose and scope

  • Deliverables and timeline

  • Fee structure and terms

Once signed, we begin the process.

Step 3: Retainer Payment

We require a 50% engagement retainer before we begin the analysis. This is applied toward your total fee.

  • Payment is made securely through Stripe

  • We also accept checks — just let us know in advance

The remaining balance is due before the final report is delivered.

Step 4: Document Collection & Questionnaire

We’ll provide a secure upload link and request:

  • Financial statements or tax returns (last 3 – 5 years)

  • A current balance sheet as of the valuation date

  • A detailed business questionnaire (provided by us)

  • Any additional documents based on your company’s structure or industry

We may also schedule a call to learn more about your company’s operations, trends, and future outlook.

Step 5: Valuation Analysis

Once we have everything, we get to work. Your valuation is based on:

  • Financial analysis of your company’s performance

  • Industry and market data from multiple verified databases

  • Application of up to three valuation approaches:

    • Income Approach

    • Market Approach

    • Asset-Based Approach

We also apply discounts or premiums if necessary, based on control, marketability, or other factors relevant to your situation.

Step 6: Final Report & Review

You’ll receive a detailed, professionally written valuation report that includes:

  • Overview of your company

  • Methods and assumptions used

  • Adjustments and supporting data

  • Final conclusion of value

We’ll then schedule a review call to answer your questions and make sure the report aligns with your needs.

Confidentiality

Your information is always kept secure and confidential. We use encrypted file upload systems and never share your data. Everything you share is used solely for preparing your valuation.
